Software Engineering Lead - Connected Products
Bristol
ARCA is delighted to be partnering with an innovative clean technology business developing next-generation connected products that are helping accelerate the transition to a lower-carbon future.
With significant product development activity underway, our client is seeking a Software Engineering Lead to take ownership of the software systems that connect physical products, cloud services and customer applications.
This is an opportunity to join a mission-driven engineering team working on real-world technology challenges where software directly influences the performance, reliability and usability of products deployed in customers' homes.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on technical leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys remaining close to the technology whilst leading the direction of a growing software function.
You'll be responsible for defining software architecture, establishing engineering standards, improving development processes and mentoring a team of engineers, whilst continuing to contribute directly to delivery.
The role sits at the centre of a connected product ecosystem and requires close collaboration with firmware engineers, electronics development partners and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
The split is approximately:
- 50% hands-on software development
- 25% technical strategy, architecture and engineering process improvement
- 25% mentoring and developing a team of software engineers
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and development of software connecting embedded devices, cloud platforms and customer-facing applications.
- Define engineering standards, development practices and software delivery processes.
- Contribute directly to the codebase through development, code reviews and technical problem solving.
- Act as the technical integration point between software, firmware and electronics engineering activities.
- Develop and mentor a team of engineers, helping raise technical capability across the function.
- Drive adoption of modern software engineering practices, CI/CD and AI-assisted development tools.
- Support the delivery of secure, scalable and reliable connected product capabilities.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders and external technology partners to ensure successful product delivery.
Key Experience Required
We're interested in speaking with engineers who have experience developing and leading software for connected products, IoT devices or complex hardware/software systems.
You'll likely bring experience in:
- Technical leadership within software engineering teams.
- Connected devices, IoT or smart product ecosystems.
- Developing software that interfaces with physical products and embedded systems.
- Cloud-connected applications and distributed architectures.
